This morning we heard the words of the Consensus Statement from the Constitution of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. It reminded us that Margaret Concannon, S. Valentia, as a Sister of Saint Joseph was stimulated by the Holy Spirit of love, and as such, moved toward a profound love of God and love of neighbor without distinction….in humility, sincere charity and with an orientation toward excellence. Much could be said about Margaret, the woman, the religious, the family member, the friend. Much also could be said of the many gifts and talents she possessed and shared over her entire lifetime of 93 years including the 73 years and 7 days she lived as a prayerful, dedicated, faith filled, Sister of Saint Joseph.
Most of us are aware that Margaret enjoyed learning new things and travelling with family and friends; she was an avid reader, motivated by enriching conversation, and interested in Congregational happenings, family events and world affairs.
Margaret’s death is a great loss to her devoted niece and nephews, Peggy, Tom, Jim and Paul and their families, and to her many friends. Yet, even in death we rejoice with her, knowing that she is now with her loving God.
Margaret’s expressed wish was that there be no sharing of memories, so we honor her request. We are grateful for the gift of Margaret’s presence in our lives and are better for having known her.
We thank God, Margaret, for your time among us. You heard and believed the words of the prophet Isaiah, Margaret, you are called by name, and you are God’s own, precious and loved. Enjoy the plan God had for you from all eternity…and God said, where I am, Margaret, you also may be.
Rest in Peace.
